About the Consultant – Data Analyst

As a data analyst in the Quality Management and Improvement Services practice area, you will collaborate with team members to conceptualize, deliver, and support our clients through today’s ever-changing healthcare landscape. NYSTEC is considered a trusted advisor, providing subject matter expertise, and connecting the dots for our clients. NYSTEC has consulted on some of the largest Medicaid initiatives and served in various roles across a multitude of New York State healthcare technology systems.

Serving as a data analyst, your day-to-day role as a NYSTEC consultant will include supporting healthcare technology initiatives for our clients, partners, and stakeholders, primarily through the application of strong data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities: Consultant – Data Analyst

Overall, in the role of consultant – data analyst, you will:

  • Develop and maintain reports for internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Work with team members to analyze and collect data.
  • Perform data quality verification checks to ensure the accuracy of reports and data.
  • Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics, and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
  • Manage data and effectively document data processes.
  • Collaborate with team members to solve complex problems using data.
  • Develop queries using Structured Query Language (SQL), as needed, to mine data from the Medicaid Data Warehouse (MDW).

About You

Required Qualifications: Consultant – Data Analyst
  • Extensive experience writing ad hoc advanced queries in SQL.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with business analytic and professional communication.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with translating complex analytic ideas into actionable insights for varied levels of audience.
  • Ability to develop relationships with stakeholders and to understand their needs through excellent listening and effective written and verbal communication.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications: Consultant – Data Analyst
  • Understanding of data management.
  • Experience working with and managing large, complex data sets.
  • Use and analysis of data to inform decision-making.
  • Ability to perform data quality analysis to identify risks and opportunities in data quality.
  • Use of health informatics or Medicaid/Medicare data to improve healthcare outcomes.
  • Ability to work in a remote capacity, as well as in an office setting.
  • Experience in healthcare or a related field.
  • Experience using Python to perform data analysis tasks.
  • Experience developing reports and dashboards in a business intelligence (BI) tool (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
Education and Experience: Consultant – Data Analyst

For the consultant – data analyst role, candidates should have the following education/experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline and one year of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will be considered.
