About the Communications Specialist

As a Communications Specialist in the Marketing Communications department, you will collaborate with team members to provide impeccable editorial and communication support through an array of external and internal communication services for the company.

Key Responsibilities: Communications Specialist

Overall, in the role of communications specialist, you will:

  • Provide public and community relations support, including creating media announcements/press releases, fielding media inquiries, developing a media network and proactively pitching story ideas to the media that further corporate priorities.
  • Research and manage opportunities for NYSTEC’s leaders to be featured in the community, including workshops, events, stakeholder initiatives and conferences.
  • Help manage strategic outreach efforts to community stakeholders.
  • Help manage NYSTEC’s new comprehensive branding campaign, including supporting the brand internally and managing it externally.
  • Help support the development of brochures, flyers, newsletter content, social media content, presentations, website content, and other marketing and communication materials.
  • Provide quality assurance and editorial support for internal and external communications deliverables.
  • Provide communication and outreach support for NYSTEC- and IgniteU-hosted events as needed.
  • Must exercise a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
About You: Communications Specialist Role

Candidates applying for the role of communications specialist should have the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:

  • Background in corporate communication with proven editorial and verbal skills with the ability to write for different audiences (internal and external) in various styles and formats, including visually driven content, press releases, ads, and digital content.
  • Ability to plan and execute deliverables while thriving in a rapidly changing environment under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, internally and externally, and be goal-oriented while maintaining a positive attitude and customer focus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Thorough knowledge of the AP Style Guide and writing guidelines.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent business and creative writing skills.
  • Strong project management skills, working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of public-sector (state and local government) environments.
Education and Experience: Communications Specialist

For the communications specialist role, candidates should have the following education/experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience. Prior experience with content generation and media relations in the professional services industry a must. Equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and professional experience will be considered.

A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
