Twenty-one Berlin High School students in grades 9-12 participated in the first of seven sessions they will attend this school year at NYSTEC in Troy.
At the end of the first session, which introduced the Mountaineers to different areas of STEAM and engaged them in hands-on activities and team building, the students were energized and excited about the potential of the partnership. They were also enthusiastic about being asked by NYSTEC for feedback and collaboration in planning the direction of their future sessions.
This new partnership, which Berlin High School Principal Mr. David Bernsley has been working hard to create, has great potential not just this year but in the years to come for Mountaineers interested in the vast array of fields that fall within the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) fields.
STEAM has been a major driver of innovation, problem-solving, and economic growth in today’s world. NYSTEC, a nonprofit organization, advises businesses, agencies, and institutions on IT strategies and solutions and has a fellowship program with nine area colleges that pairs students with companies to provide valuable real-world work experiences.
