ROME, New York, May 26, 2021. New York State Technology Enterprise Corporation (NYSTEC) announced that its board of directors has selected Kevin Owens as the company’s new chief executive officer, effective April 1, 2021.

Owens, who began serving as the company’s president on January 3, 2021, succeeds Mike Walsh, who retired after seven years as president and CEO.

Highly Regarded

Owens has more than 20 years’ experience in program development and business strategy. In addition, he is highly regarded as an expert in transformational initiatives.

In 2010, Owens joined NYSTEC as a health-IT consultant. He rapidly advanced, first as a systems transformation leader, then as one of NYSTEC’s executive directors.

As CEO, he will focus on further developing the company’s internal capacity and services while continuing to foster NYSTEC’s extensive client relationships across government at the local, state, and federal levels.

“Throughout his career at NYSTEC, Kevin has been instrumental in the development and expansion of NYSTEC’s various initiatives,” said NYSTEC Board Chair Bill Pirillo. “He is a visionary leader who embraces NYSTEC’s core values of people, teamwork, excellence, integrity, community, and innovation. And he successfully balances multiple priorities while delivering exceptional value.”

Long History of Leadership

Owens has a long history not only of client success but also of servant leadership. Across his numerous roles at NYSTEC, he has been actively involved in mentoring his teams. He has also provided leadership opportunities that supported professional development and company growth.

“Kevin is an enthusiastic supporter of NYSTEC’s workplace culture,” said Dr. Thomas Triscari, Jr., member of NYSTEC’s board of directors. “He is invested in employee engagement across the company and is deeply involved in community activities, whether in Rome, Albany, Troy, or New York City. His commitment to giving back and developing talent has distinguished him throughout his career.”

“NYSTEC has enjoyed a long history of capable leadership,” said Pirillo. “With Kevin’s appointment, we continue that winning tradition. The Board is confident that Kevin’s experience and leadership will further NYSTEC’s mission and continued success.”
