About the Role:

As a quality assurance (QA) engineer, you will collaborate with team members to conceptualize, deliver, and support our clients through today’s ever-changing landscape. The QA engineer is responsible for creating tests to identify issues with a software solution before it is released. Duties include identifying, analyzing, and reporting on defects and risks associated with a given release. Other tasks include designing, developing, and running tests, reporting on the results, and collaborating with software developers and other stakeholders to address issues. Depending on the assignment, specific testing may include, but not be limited to: system, end-to-end integration, automated, performance, smoke, black box, white box, usability, regression, break, and failover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with business analysts, program subject matter experts, and technical staff to create robust test plans.
  • Perform testing (system, end-to-end integration, automated, performance, smoke, black box, white box, usability, regression, break, and failover), including troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Implement automated tests; build test scripts; utilize test frameworks; and execute, document, track, research, test, and communicate defects.
  • Work with performance testing tools like Load Runner and Astra Load Test to perform load, performance, and break testing.
  • Provide mission-critical applications support and be on call as required.
  • Develop an understanding of Java code, VB Script, client-side code, and review and debugging issues.
  • Design, develop, implement, and optimize the application architecture to improve performance.
  • Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment and participate in technical meetings and support calls.

About You:

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive software testing experience covering multiple testing techniques, from regression to performance and from integration to usability.
  • Ability to design a testing strategy, develop test plans, and implement and manage the entire QA life cycle.
  • Extensive experience with automated testing tools and the ability to develop scripts and to capture and report on the results.
  • Experience working with business analysts, program subject matter experts, and technical staff to create robust test plans and test cases for web applications.
  • Ability to analyze test results, report results to various stakeholders and teams, and provide recommendations on fixes and enhancements.
  • Experience in all aspects of the software development life cycle (SDLC).

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Hewlett Packard Application Lifecycle Management (HP ALM).
  • Experience with Hewlett Packard Unified Functional Testing (HP UFT), Quick Test Pro (QTP), and/or Win Runner.
  • Experience with performance testing tools like Load Runner and Astra Load Test.
  • Understanding of programming languages PL/SQL, SQL, Java, VB, .Net, HTML, TSL, PHP, and/or VB Script.
  • Experience writing Unix shell scripts.
  • Experience working with New York State government and the New York State Business Express platform.

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or professional specialty and 8 years of relevant experience, with increasing independence and complexity of assignments. An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • ITSQB certification, desired.
